Whether you’re updating an existing layout or creating a whole new design for an extension or open-plan space, you want your kitchen to be on-trend while at the same time having longevity.

Kitchens are a big investment so you want to be sure that you’re going to love your new space for a long time to come. That’s why here at BCK Interiors, we know how to balance the latest looks, styles, finishes, materials and appliances with exceptional function and practicality to ensure your dream kitchen ticks all the boxes both inside and out. Here’s what’s hot for 2024 and how we can make it work for you…

Dark and dramatic colour schemes

This year, it’s all about creating a dramatic and intense mood with darker palettes. Dark steel, onyx grey, industrial grey, charcoal, oak sepia, dark green and midnight blue cabinetry looks ultra-chic in a contemporary kitchen, especially if it’s handleless for a seamless finish.

You can go all-out with the dark theme by choosing worksurfaces in a complementary dark finish or create contrast with crisp white surfaces.

There’s no need to worry about making the space feel smaller, as a dark palette is often especially suited to smaller rooms, as it makes them feel cosy and cocooning. And by adding pale or light-toned flooring, worksurfaces, walls and ceiling, the effect is carefully balanced for a monochrome look that’s bang on trend.

Dark colour schemes also appear stunning in a large room or open-plan scheme and can be carried through to the dining area or living space for a cohesive look. Matt finishes are big news for 2024, and if you want a timber effect, look to the rich wood grains of walnut or oak.

Contrasting worksurfaces

Another of this year’s biggest kitchen trends is for contrasting worksurfaces. Consider the island as a focal point within your space and make it the ultimate statement piece with a luxe marble top and waterfall edges that run down the sides for a fully clad look. Islands are extremely practical in any kitchen, as they can be used for food prep, cooking, washing up, dining, working, or simply sitting with a coffee as you admire your brand-new kitchen.

If marble isn’t your thing, consider a contrasting colour or finish to the main run of worksurfaces. Or how about different surface materials for the kitchen and adjoining utility room? You could even add a personal touch by incorporating a breakfast cupboard, larder or pantry with a small length of contrasting worksurface inside for pastry rolling, bread kneading or preparing tea and toast.

Home bars for entertaining

As entertaining at home becomes ever more popular, this year it’s all about making your guests feel welcome with a home bar – whether on show or concealed behind cabinet doors – or a wine cabinet. With dual temperature models to keep red, white and sparkling wines perfectly chilled, it’s ideal for allowing family and friends to help themselves while you get on with the cooking.

Smaller under-cabinet versions can easily slot into the end of an island or if you want a full-length style, these can be built into a tall floor-to-ceiling bank of cabinets next to an integrated fridge-freezer for the ultimate cooling wall.

Feature lighting for after-dark wow factor

Lighting can often be overlooked but here at BCK Interiors, we know how important layered lighting is within the kitchen. As well as essential task lighting over work areas, the cooker, hob and sink, the latest trend for 2024 is to include feature lighting for soft, ambient illumination after dark.

Strip lighting and spotlights can be fitted within cabinet plinths, under the lip of an island worksurface, underneath wall cabinets and open shelving and inside glass-fronted units to highlight specific areas or zones within your space, creating a party mood when entertaining or simply relaxing with the family.
